Vernonique’s Tips-

When we start talking about anti-ageing and what helps and doesn’t help, there are a few basic things which could go a long way towards keeping you looking as youthful as possible for as long as possible.

First of all, beauty comes from within, and I mean it quite literally. Yes, what goes on onto your face is important, but what will really make a difference is what goes inside your body and how you treat it.

There isn’t a recipe which will suit a particular age; the key is to start as young as possible. So, already in your twenties you should be thinking about the following simple rules and keep implementing them throughout the decades of your life.

Things to avoid

1) Smoking as it depletes the body of all essential nutrients.

2) Frequent sun exposure or sunbeds, as you might end up with sun damage and brown spots on your face and body.

3) Coffee, tea or alcohol as they dehydrate your skin, which may accentuate fine lines and wrinkles.

4) Chemical-rich cosmetics; use natural skin care products.

5) Stress! Why not take up a yoga or Pilates class, or learn to meditate? Whatever it is for you – you may find jogging works better, find your own way to let off steam, relax and let go. Stress creates free radicals, which your body has to work hard at neutralising, and makes your blood cholesterol and your blood pressure go up.

Things to do as much as possible:

1) Drink plenty of water, fresh juices and smoothies. Your skin, your joints, your digestive tract, your whole body needs water.

2) Eat fruit and vegetables in abundance. Your skin craves nutrients.

3) Eat plenty of fish, olive oil, nuts and seeds. The essential fatty acids and the proteins in those foods are essential to keep the condition, the elasticity and the integrity of the skin. That could be seen as the equivalent of putting a serum on your face, except that it benefits much more than just your face: all your organs needs those essential fatty acids and proteins to function well.

4) Eat plenty of vitamin C-rich foods such as oranges, kiwis. Try adding Organic Burst Baobab, the hottest superfood with 6 x more vitamin C than an orange. Vitamin C is essential to keep the integrity of the collagen in the skin. (Available at £8.29 for 70g from health stores nationwide and

5) Keep your blood sugar stable: a healthy body helps to keep a healthy mind and that directly helps to keep you young for longer. For example, people diagnosed with diabetes are found to age more quickly than healthier individuals.

6) Add anti-oxidants-rich foods: the Organic Burst Açai capsules are a really valuable addition to one’s diet, especially for people who want to look after their skin as the açai berry is extremely rich in anti-oxidants. (Organic Burst Acai is available at £18.99 for 90caps from health stores nationwide and )

7) When you go out for the day, wear protection, if not sunscreen, at least a moisturiser, which will act as a barrier.

8) Get plenty of sleep. Your skin will look more relaxed.

9) Smile, have fun: it has been proved that frowning makes fine lines and wrinkles worse over time. It requires less energy and fewer muscles to smile than to frown.

Things to look into

1) Learn face gymnastics to keep your face muscles supple.

2) Find a therapist who does or can teach you face massage to stimulate the lymphatic system around the face and prevent dark circles and saggy eyes. It is often the movement of the fingers along the orbit rather than eye creams, which make a difference to how tired or fresh your eyes look.

3) Pull your hair vigorously at least once a day to stimulate the circulation to the scalp: this should help keep your hair growing and keep it strong, and may prevent it from greying prematurely.

4) Do a detox once or twice a year. One of the most useful foods for detox is spirulina: Organic Burst Spirulina contains all the nutrients, which your skin and body needs to be healthy. We talked about proteins and essential fatty acids: spirulina has those. Not only should they help keep the skin look younger but they could also help prevent your brain from deteriorating. Organic Burst Spirulina contains high amounts of B vitamins, which are extremely important for liver detoxification as well as digestion and skin, hair and nail health: all of these are interlinked. The better you absorb you food, the healthier you look and spirulina is very easily digested so its nutrients are quickly assimilated. The B vitamins in spirulina also help the body adapt to stress. Organic Burst Spirulina really has the whole package. (Available at £10.99 for 100g from health stores nationwide and
