Our next tip is from Suzy Mitchell, a London Based Pilates teacher who runs Pilates Retreats in Italy and Cyprus. Suzy has been teaching Body Control Pilates since 2002, becoming an advanced master mat work teacher in 2009 and Reformer teacher in 2011. Prior to this whilst working as a professional dancer and performer, she also trained as a Reflexologist and Personal trainer. Her own training continues under the watchful eye of Miranda Bass as well as taking every opportunity she can to attend workshops with world respected teachers such as Mary Bowen, Elizabeth Larkham and Tom Myers. She states that: “People and the way they move fascinates me and whilst my teachers and the philosophy behind Pilates continue to inspire me, getting to share my passion with people continues to be my greatest reward”.

Suzy’s Tips:

1. Get out and move EVERYDAY without fail. Whether it’s a walk to the shops, walking the dog or joining a salsa class. Exercise keeps our muscles toned our circulation moving and our eyes brighter, increased oxygen uptake improves every cell in the body!

2.Keep learning! Take on a new subject, class or skill. When we put
ourselves back in a learning environment we challenge our mental and physical habits to change and develop, an inquiring mind presents energy to the world.

3. Remain flexible-flexibility in your mind and body keeps you younger. A strong, active and agile body is by definition youthful but maintaining flexibility of thought can be just as influential in how we look and therefore feel in ourselves.

4.Take 5 minutes out at least to stop and Breathe. Your face has 43
muscles in it, and if these are constantly tense and tired no amount of cream can counter that much stress. A relaxed face is a young one, no matter what your age.

5. Stop worrying about aging! It’s going to happen, but we can be responsible for what we eat, what we drink and what we smoke, not to mention the exercise and rest we take….be conscientious about the things you can do and dismiss the things you can’t.

6. Joseph Pilates thoughts on age….

‘The only real guide to your true age is not in years or in how you THINK you feel but as you ACTUALLY are as infallibly indicated by the degree of natural and normal flexibility enjoyed by your spine throughout life.
