How often do we say life is just so much more stressful now, we have so many labour saving devices, you would think that our lives would be easier. It might just be something to do with the amount of jobs we tackle in a day and the length of time we spend on computers connecting with the outside world.
As a child my mother didn’t work, her week was full of washing, ironing, cooking and cleaning. They are just the tasks we do in between our work, so our jobs truly are never done. Millions of hours are lost at work through stress. DHEA, dehydroepi-androsterone is a stress diffuser, it has been used medically to improve libido in women and sexual performance in men. Our body actually manufactures it when we feel happy and secure, the more there is in your body the less stress will have an impact.
DHEA is at it’s highest when you are in your 20’s and reduces so that by the time you are 65 you may only have 10% present. It enhances energy, boosts the immune system, reduces body fat, increases libido, sharpens the memory and slows down physical ageing.
The continual state of stress we live increases the reduction of DHEA in our body, making us tired and susceptible to disease. You can reduce the amount of stress and increase your DHEA levels by taking the following steps:
1.Reduce processed foods high in sugar and refined carbohydrates. Use fresh local produce where possible.
2. Try to get a good nights sleep, it is thought that going to bed earlier gives more effective relaxation and cell renewal.
3. Exercise regularly to boost circulation.
4. Meditate or focus on your breathing for a few minutes each day.
5. take a DHEA supplement (if you have any health concerns consult your GP first)
