Yes you read it right, there are people out there that have done over 100 marathons!!! Surely not I hear you say – Not just 100 but 200, 300, 500 and even over 800 marathons.
I have to admit being slightly faint hearted I can’t even begin to imagine running 1 marathon but this weekend we were invited to the Lake District to support the Brathay 10 in 10, in a nutshell people that are mad enough to run 10 marathons in 10 days and not over the gentle landscapes of the fens, this is 10 x 26.2 miles over sheer mountainous country side. On the last day many of them limped out, with supports and bindings but everyone of the 18 that started completed the 262 miles in a fete of human endurance. The comaraderie was evident for all to see and the remarkable thing was the marathon of marathons was won by a young woman, Sally Ford who had only 4 previous marathons under her belt.
This is a story for all of us who think we can’t or think we shouldn’t – We bloody well can!! Thank you to all the 10 in 10’ers who ran 10 marathons in 10 days, thank you to all those who have run 100 marathons and thank you to Sally who show us that we can achieve what ever we want – with focus and determination and a goal as to where we are going, we can do what we wish.
‘What the mind conceives man can achieve’ and Sally definitely did believe!
